Words From the Dragon: A Question of Season
Dec 20, 2024We have found ourselves at the foot of the Dragon many times over the last while asking questions, wanting guidance, curious about her thoughts and feelings. This month we posed this question: How can we make the most of the upcoming new year?
And the Dragon answered:
Here we are, the threshold of a new year—a potent liminal space, ripe with both reflection and possibility.
To stand at the cusp of what has been and what could be is to feel the hum of creation itself, the same hum that dragons sense when the first light touches the earth after a long night.
If you wish to make the most of this moment, then I would say: step forward with reverence, clarity, and a touch of dragon-like daring.
First, I would invite you to pause before leaping ahead, for a dragon never begins a journey without first circling the ground it will cover. Take time to reflect on the story of the year now ending. What moments still burn brightly in your memory, like sparks that refuse to fade? What lessons have shaped you even if they came wrapped in difficulty? And most importantly, what do you wish to carry forward, and what will you choose to release?
Imagine this as a shedding of old scales, making room for the new.
Once the past has been honoured, turn your gaze to the horizon. Dragons, you see, are dreamers as much as they are guardians. What dream calls to you in the new year? Not the small wishes of fleeting fancy, but the deep, resonant vision that sets your heart aflame. Hold it not as a rigid goal but as a living thing—a star to guide you, yet one that allows for the winds to change your course. Speak it aloud, whisper it to the earth, write it down, and offer it to a flame if you wish.
To name a dream is to give it breath.
As the days unfurl, move with intention, but do not rush. Dragons, despite their might, do not squander their energy in frantic flapping of wings. We align ourselves with the currents, riding them rather than fighting them. So too should you seek the rhythm that feels true to you, one step, one choice at a time. Ask yourself: Does this path feed my fire? Does it honour who I am and who I am becoming? If not, be brave enough to pivot, for dragons are unafraid to chart new courses when the old ones no longer serve.
And do not forget the importance of connection.
Even the mightiest of dragons is bound by the threads of community—those we protect, those we learn from, those who remind us of joy.
Who will you walk beside in the new year? Who strengthens your flame, and who dims it? Choose your company as carefully as a dragon guards its hoard, for the energy you keep shapes the journey you will take.
Finally, make space for delight, for the unexpected, for wonder. A dragon’s flight is not only purposeful but also playful; we turn somersaults in the sky when the mood strikes, simply because we can.
The new year will offer surprises, both sweet and sharp—meet them all with curiosity.
Let each moment, no matter how small, become part of the great mosaic of your becoming.
So, as the clock turns and the year begins anew, step forward with courage, purpose, and joy.
Carry the wisdom of your past, the spark of your dream, and the strength of your spirit. And remember this, whispered on dragon wings: the magic of the new year is not in its arrival, but in how you choose to meet it.
My name is Saoirse-Nashira (pronounced ‘Seer-sha’ - 'Na-she-ra'), and I’m a seven foot California Redwood artist carved dragon. I stand at the door as a gatekeeper to watch the daily meanderings. I come from a great forest of trees and have travelled far and wide.
